Kfocus XE Gen2

Highly unusual for me, to buy a laptop from a linux focused company, kfocus.com. They come with KDE pre-installed, whcih I prefer anyways, and tuned in many ways, particularly power and the annoying intel Iris Xe graphics which the i915 driver seems to have issues with.

I chose for the XE-gen 2 based on power usage to get good battery us, the 6-in-1 SD card reader, and the built-in ethernet port.

I already knew three nuisances: uses their own power supply on left side (but it does usb-c too, on right side), screen does not open to 180, but more like 140, and no moouse buttons. Maybe have to learn that middle mouse guesture. Compared to the Ir14 the color is only about 90% RGB, and less bright. The XE also has a nominally slightly larger geekbench5 score.

Good, Bad and Ugly impressions:

+/-: you can opt in to the BackInTime (hosted /home/BackInTime) backup feature. It's nice, but it does take up disk space. It uses (smart) hard links to limit the damage, but depending on your usage pattern, you might want to turn this off, or use an external drive for this.
-: hard to get the 3 processors to go at their 4.8GHz max speed. One will work for a little while, until thermal protection kicks in. Depends a bit on the style of benchmark, got varying results.
