My linux compatible hardware

Hardware I have and their corresponding performance under linux:

PCMCIA ethernet/modem combo card: 3CXEM556B. This is a 16bit card, so the 100 speed in the 10/100 part doesn't work well. Modem part is an X-jack. Both modem and ethernet work fine.
PCMCIA ethernet: Linksys 10/100 Cardbus: V1 works fine (work) [$90, DCW oct-1998] . New V2 still having problems (8-aug-00), but has been solved with tulip.c V0.92l (19-aug-00)
PCMCIA modem: 56k (kartik)
PCMCIA ethernet 10/100+modem 56 combo: Xircom Global Access. This is a 16bit card, so the 100 speed in the 10/100 part doesn't work well. Both are dongle connections. Both work well, although had some spurious problems at the funky HP phone system in Hawaii (works fine at home though). Modem is originally K56Flex.
PCMCIA SCSI: adaptec SlimSCSI APA-1460A. works fine. (home)
Netgear 10/100 print=server. Model PS110. works fine. (home) [feb-2000]
PCMCIA SmartMedia adapter (Viking, $45) dual voltage - but does not do anything above 16MB and seems to have problems deleting files now
PCMCIA SmartMedia adapter (...., $40), only 3.3V, but handles 128MB cards (though I have the suspicion it has been corrupting the CIS, requiring me to low-level format them using a $20 USB smartmedia card reader (ZIO; march 2002) [$40 dec-2001]
PCMCIA SmartMedia adapter (Antec, $40, www.antec-inc.com) , handles 128MB fine [dec-2001]
PCI Linksys 10/100 LNE100TX card: ok, but need the tulip.c driver version 0.92h worked for me. See www.scyld.com. [$14.95 7-aug-00]

PCMCIA CDR/CDRW drive, EXP (www.expnet.com) - oddly enough showed up as /dev/hdg though, not the perhaps expected /dev/hde. [$150 7-apr-02]

ADS USB 2.0 drive kit [7-apr-02, $60]. Works fine in USB1 mode, got about 700 kB/sec speed op reading files (USB1 is rated at around 1200).
A SiiG USB2 PCI controller card, with which the USB2 kit gave me close to 10 MB/sec, quite acceptable now. Still a factor of 2 below what the disk should be able to do on a 33MHz PCI bus, but not bad. [may 2002, $40]. See also my disk I/O experiments.

Things that don't work with linux (at least when i tried them)

floppy adaptor for smartcards (for digital cameras and such, $99) [spring 1999]
Blackout Buster. A UPS, no software for linux, but didn't try to see if it works yet. ($80)
