BOP: our Bookcase of Pentiums
We (Lee Mundy, Peter Teuben, Mark Wolfire, Marc Pound) are putting together
a series of high-end Pentium-II based workstations
(BOP = Bookcase Of Pentiums) that can also be
configured as a massive parallel beowulf-type processor.
Here's some background reading and software we may employ,
- Our PDR web pages, which covers
the scientific background of the primary use of this cluster
- Some pictures of our
machines:
- Clustered PCs:
- If you have built your own machine, you need to learn something about
system components. The following is a list of links that have proven
to be useful to us. Remember, this is somewhat Intel-based biased,
and was constructed in May 1998:
- Here are some examples or commercially available systems:
- System Software:
- MPI
(also at netlib)
- LAM/MPI:
MPI programming environment and development system.
- PVM
(also at netlib)
- BSP
- Linux SMP. We did not plan to use multiple processors, we are
just using it to run jobs in parallel, which appears to work
very well for our applications.
- Clustor
(now called
enFuzion within TurboLinux).
