Name

runbulgerot - rotation curve of oblate spheroidal Sersic bulge

Synopsis

bulgerot

runbulgerot [parameter=value]

Description

runbulgerot is a NEMO frontend to run (a series) of Noordermeer’s bulgerot program (2008).

This program calculates the rotation curve for an oblate spheroidal bulge. It assumes a projected surface density that follows a Sersic profile. The central surface magnitude M_0, characteristic radius R_0 and Sersic index n_sers must be given. Also, the inclination and intrinsic axis ratio of the bulge must be given. Finally, the distance and the Galactic foreground extinction of the galaxy is needed.

Parameters

The following parameters are recognized in any order if the keyword is also given:
outdir=
Output run directory. The exe= program is run with a default input file bulgerot.in and default output (log) file bulgerot.dat in this run directory. No default.
mu0=
Apparent central R-band surface magnitude M_0 [15.0]
r0=
Characteristic radius R_0 in arcseconds [1.0]
n=
Sersic index [1]
inc=
Inclination [0.0]
q=
Axis ratio b/a [1.0]
dist=
Distance in Mpc [10.0]
ar=
Galactic foreground extinction [0.0]
radii=
Radii (in kpc) to calculate the rotation curve for, using standard nemoinp(3NEMO) notation. [0:2.5:0.01]
galaxy=
Identification [sersic]
exe=
Name of bulgerot executable. Needs to be in the user’s $PATH. [bulgerot]

Examples

The following example creates a rotation curve in columns 1 and 5, and uses the rotcur potential in rotcurves(1NEMO) to plot the lindblad curves derived from this rotcur based potential
% runbulgerot out=sersic1.tab
% rotcurves rotcur 0,1,1,5,1 sersec1.tab radii=0:2:0.01 mode=omega yrange=0,400

The original version of bulgerot had a hardcoded set of input parameters (see BENCHMARK below), but the modified version for NEMO (and runbulgerot) reads them from stdin in a certain order, viz.

% bulgerot << EOF_BULGEROT
bulgerot.dat # log
sersic:n=1 # galaxy
15.0d0 1.0d0 1.0d0 # mu0, r0, n
0.0d0 1.0d0 10.0d6 0.0d0 # inc, q, dist, ar
0.0d0 0.01d0 250 # rstart, rstep, nradii
EOF_BULGEROT

Benchmark

The default benchmark will produce a logfile of which the header and tail end should look as follows (where at 2.5 kpc the rotation curve is 235.148 km/s)
# radius intensity density mass velocity
