Mediawiki spam protection

Jump to: navigation, search

If you plan to put mediawiki on an open IP (e.g. without .htaccess protection) you will be spammed very quickly. Perhaps things are better with newer versions of mediawiki. Also note that depending on the versions of mysql (if you so choose that as your db engine), php you have, it locks you into a mediawiki version. Transferring your mediawiki db is not hard, but neither trivial.

A detailed description of the authentication switches are on [1] and [2].

Normally you edit the LocalSettings.php file in the root directory of your mediawiki tree. You can also look at the includes/DefaultSettings.php, which comes with wiki and you should not edit itself (updating mediawiki would overwrite them again).
